A Day in My Life as an Education Recruitment Consultant

Ever wondered what it’s really like to work as an education recruitment consultant?

At Flourish Education, no two days are ever the same, and the pace is fast, focused and driven by supporting schools when they need it most. It is busy, reactive and incredibly rewarding, with every day bringing new challenges and opportunities.

In this blog, we follow Hannah, one of our primary recruiters for the Staffordshire area, to give you a real insight into a typical day in the role.

Starting Early

My day starts early at 6am and quite often, so does the phone.

Schools can call first thing with last minute sickness or unexpected absences, so I’ll often be sorting bookings before I’ve even left the house. It’s all about reacting quickly and making sure schools have the cover they need.

Once I’ve handled anything urgent, I head into the office ready to get stuck in.

Fast-Paced and School-Focused

As soon as I log on, it’s straight into action.

More bookings will come in, and I’ll be working quickly to find the right candidates and get back to schools with solutions and options. Communication is key, and we always make sure our schools know what’s happening, even if we’re still working on finding the right person.

Around 9am, I’ll start working through candidate emails, enquiries and applications, as well as speaking to candidates. Even during the busiest mornings, it’s important to keep those conversations going and make sure candidates feel supported.

Building Relationships with Schools

From around 10am through to lunchtime, I spend a lot of time on the phone to schools.

I’ll be checking in with schools across Staffordshire to see if they need any support and catching up with those where we already have candidates working. It’s important to make sure everything is going well and that both the school and the candidate are happy.

This part of the day is all about relationships. The better we understand our schools, the better we can support them when they need us most.

Lunch and a Reset

Around midday, I take an hour for lunch.

I usually go for a long walk to get some fresh air and reset after a busy morning, then it’s leftovers for lunch before heading back for the afternoon.

Staying Organised and Proactive

The afternoons give me a chance to focus on some of the work behind the scenes.

I’ll spend time on admin tasks like writing CVs for candidates who have completed the registration process. This gives me a clear understanding of their experience, strengths and what they are looking for, so I can match them to the right schools.

I’ll also post new job adverts for roles that have come in and carry out registration calls with new candidates starting their journey with us.

It’s a good balance between keeping everything organised behind the scenes and continuing to build relationships with candidates.

Wrapping Up the Day

Towards the end of the day, I check in with candidates who have been out working to see how their day has gone.

It’s important to get that feedback, make sure they’ve enjoyed their placement and address anything straight away. I’ll also keep an eye on any last minute bookings that come in and make sure everything is covered for the next day.

I finish at 4:30pm and head home after what is usually a very full and fast-paced day.

Why I Enjoy Working at Flourish Education

Since joining Flourish, one of the biggest things I’ve noticed is how supportive the team is. Everyone works together and there’s a real focus on doing things properly, not just quickly.

It’s a role where you are constantly solving problems, building relationships and making a genuine difference to both schools and candidates.

No two days are the same, which keeps it interesting, and it’s really rewarding knowing the impact you have every day.

Thinking About a Career in Education Recruitment?

If you’re an experienced recruiter and enjoy a fast-paced environment, education recruitment is a great option.

At Flourish Education, you get the opportunity to build long term relationships, work in a supportive team and make a real difference to schools and candidates.

If that sounds like something you’d be interested in, we’d love to hear from you.
