Are you an experienced and confident HLTA looking for a full-time role starting after Easter?

A welcoming and supportive Primary School in Smethwick is seeking a dedicated Higher Level Teaching Assistant to join their team from after Easter through to the end of the academic year in July.

This is a full-time HLTA position, covering classes across KS1 and KS2, providing valuable teaching support across a range of year groups. There is no planning required for this role until July, making it an excellent opportunity for those seeking a better work/life balance or looking to gain further classroom experience.

In this Higher Level Teaching Assistant role, you will play a key part in maintaining continuity of learning by leading whole-class sessions in the absence of the class teacher. You will deliver pre-prepared lessons, manage classroom behaviour, and support pupils’ engagement and progress across the curriculum.

This role is ideal for newly qualified teachers looking to build confidence and experience, or for qualified teachers seeking a more flexible and manageable workload.

As an HLTA, your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering pre-planned lessons across KS1 and KS2 in the absence of the class teacher

  • Managing classroom behaviour effectively and promoting a positive learning environment

  • Supporting pupils’ learning and engagement across a range of subjects

  • Adapting delivery to meet the needs of all learners, including those with additional needs

  • Working closely with teaching staff to ensure consistency and continuity

  • Providing feedback on pupil progress and classroom activities


To be successful in this HLTA role, you will need:

  • HLTA status or equivalent qualification/experience

  • Previous experience covering classes within a primary school setting

  • Strong behaviour management skills and classroom presence

  • A flexible and adaptable approach to working across different year groups

  • A proactive and positive attitude towards supporting learning

  • Availability to work full-time from after Easter until July
