Are you a dedicated Nursery Assistant looking for a part-time 1:1 support role?

A welcoming and supportive First School in Bromsgrove is seeking a Nursery Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a Nursery child with autism and challenging behaviours. This part-time role is working within the school’s Early Years setting for 3 days per week, starting in September until February initally.

As a Nursery Assistant, you will provide dedicated 1:1 support throughout the school day, helping the child to access learning, develop social skills, and regulate behaviour. You will play an important role in creating a safe, structured, and positive environment that supports the child’s emotional and educational development.

As a Nursery Assistant, your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing 1:1 support for a Nursery child with autism and challenging behaviours.

  • Supporting the child with communication, emotional regulation, and engagement in activities.

  • Working closely with the class teacher and SENCO to implement strategies and routines.

  • Promoting positive behaviour and encouraging social interaction.

  • Supporting the child during classroom activities, transitions, and play-based learning.

  • Helping to create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment.

  • Monitoring progress and providing feedback to staff and parents where appropriate.


To be successful in this Nursery Assistant role, you will need:

  • A relevant Early Years qualification.

  • Previous experience working with children with SEN, particularly autism.

  • Experience supporting children with challenging behaviours.

  • A calm, patient, and resilient approach.

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

  • The ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff, and parents.

  • A proactive and flexible attitude.
