Were recruiting for a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join a highly supportive and well-resourced Special Educational Needs (SEN) School in Kidderminster. This is a long-term position starting as soon as possible, working with pupils in Years 3/4 or Years 5/6, depending on experience and school needs.
This role is ideal for an HLTA who has a strong background in SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) and is passionate about supporting children with additional and complex needs. Pupils at the school may also present EBD and other associated needs, and many work below age-related expectations. Behaviour can at times be challenging, so the school is looking for someone who is confident, calm, and consistent in their approach.
As an HLTA, you will play a vital role in supporting the class teacher with the delivery of core subjects, as well as providing targeted support to individuals and small groups. You will help create a structured, safe, and nurturing learning environment where pupils feel supported, understood, and motivated to engage in learning. This full-time role (Monday to Friday, 8:15am – 3:00pm)
Required Skills and Experience for this SEMH HLTA Role:
- HLTA qualification or significant experience in a Higher Level Teaching Assistant role
- Strong understanding of SEMH needs, with proven experience supporting pupils who may present emotional and behavioural challenges
- Ability to implement effective behaviour support and emotional regulation strategies, including trauma-informed and therapeutic approaches
- Experience working within a specialist SEN setting, PRU, or inclusive mainstream school, supporting pupils with social, emotional, and behavioural needs
- Confidence in supporting the delivery of differentiated learning activities and adapting tasks to meet individual needs and EHCP outcomes
- Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills, with the ability to remain calm and consistent during challenging situations
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
- Up-to-date knowledge and understanding of safeguarding procedures and child protection responsibilities
Salary:
- £100 – £120 per day, based on experience and working 5 days per week on a long-term basis - This is equivalent to approximately £19,500 – £23,400 per annum, based on a full academic year

We are currently supporting an SEMH SEN School based in Kidderminster, which is dedicated to meeting the needs of pupils who require specialised emotional and behavioural support. The school works with young people presenting a wide range of needs, including SEMH, EBD and associated behavioural challenges. It provides a nurturing, highly structured environment where pupils are supported to re-engage with learning, develop positive coping strategies, and build confidence both academically and socially.
The school is conveniently located for professionals commuting from areas such as Worcester, Stourport, Bewdley, Stourbridge, and the wider Wyre Forest and West Midlands regions. With good transport links and on-site parking available, the setting is easily accessible whether travelling by car or public transport.
