We are recruiting for a SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a highly supportive and well-resourced Special Educational Needs (SEN) School in Kidderminster. This is a long-term, full-time position, starting as soon as possible, working with pupils in Years 3/4 or Years 5/6, depending on experience and school requirements.
This role is ideal for a Teaching Assistant with a strong background in SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) who is passionate about supporting children with additional and complex needs. Pupils may also present with EBD and other associated needs, and many are working below age-related expectations. Behaviour can be challenging at times, so the school is seeking someone who is calm, resilient, confident, and consistent, with a positive and proactive approach to behaviour management.
As a SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the class teacher to support the delivery of learning across the curriculum, while providing targeted 1:1 and small-group support. You will play a key role in helping to create a structured, safe, and nurturing learning environment, supporting pupils to regulate their emotions, develop social skills, and engage positively with learning.
This is a full-time role, Monday to Friday, 8:15am – 3:00pm, offering the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in a specialist education setting.
Required Skills and Experience for this SEMH Teaching Assistant Role:
- Experience supporting pupils with SEMH needs, including children who may present with emotional regulation difficulties and challenging behaviour, with the ability to apply effective de-escalation and regulation strategies.
- A strong understanding of behaviour support approaches and therapeutic or trauma-informed practices to meet individual pupil needs.
- Previous experience working in a specialist SEN setting, PRU, alternative provision, or inclusive mainstream school, supporting pupils with social, emotional, and behavioural needs.
- Confidence in providing 1:1 and small-group support, adapting learning activities to suit individual abilities and learning styles.
- Ability to work closely with the class teacher and wider support team to help deliver structured, engaging, and differentiated learning activities.
- A calm, patient, and resilient approach, with the ability to build positive and trusting relationships with pupils.
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
- Up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
Salary:
- Daily pay rate of £88.92 – £100, depending on experience and responsibilities - Equivalent annual salary of approximately £17,333 – £19,500, based on term-time working

We are currently supporting an SEMH School based in Kidderminster, which is dedicated to meeting the needs of pupils who require specialised emotional and behavioural support. The school works with young people presenting a wide range of needs, including SEMH, EBD and associated behavioural challenges. It provides a nurturing, highly structured environment where pupils are supported to re-engage with learning, develop positive coping strategies, and build confidence both academically and socially.
