Job Description

We're recruiting for a English SEN Teacher to join a highly supportive Independent SEN School based in Aston. This is a full-time Long term position role working 5 days per week, 8:30am – 4:00pm,starting as soon as possible.
 
You will be delivering English lessons to pupils with Special Educational Needs, supporting students with a range of needs including Autism, ADHD, SEMH, challenging behaviour, and other complex needs.
Many pupils may be working below age-related expectations and can present with behavioural challenges. Therefore, the role requires a strong focus on emotional regulation, building positive relationships, promoting engagement, and developing constructive learning habits to support both academic and personal progress.

Required Skills and Experience for this English SEND Teacher Role:
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/QTLS)
  • Understanding of practical, sensory-based learning approaches.
  • Plan and deliver tailored English lessons to SEN pupils, adapting curriculum content to meet diverse learning needs and abilities.
  • Strong understanding of ASD and experience supporting pupils who present with challenging behaviours, including the ability to implement effective regulation strategies and personalised support approaches.
  • Background in working within a specialist school, PRU, or inclusive mainstream setting, supporting pupils with behavioural, social, and emotional needs.
  • Familiarity with strategies for managing behaviour and supporting children with emotional and behavioural challenges.
  • Confidence in planning and delivering differentiated lessons tailored to individual needs and learning outcomes.
  • Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one)
  • Up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding practices

Salary:
  • £31,650 - £45,352 per annum based on working 5 days a week until the end of term
  • Holiday Pay – 12.07% of your day rate is accrued into your holiday pot

We are currently supporting an Independent SEN School based in Aston, dedicated to meeting the needs of Secondary aged students who display challenging behaviours. The Specialist School works with young people presenting a range of needs, including ASD, ADHD, EBD, and SEMH. It offers a structured, supportive environment where pupils are encouraged to re-engage with learning, develop positive behaviours, and build confidence both academically and socially.
 
The SEN School is conveniently located for professionals commuting from Aston and surrounding areas such as Erdington, Lozells, Nechells, and central Birmingham. With excellent transport links, including easy road access, nearby public transport options, and on-site parking available, the school is easily accessible whether travelling by car or public transport.
