Job Description

Were currently recruiting for SEN Teaching Assistants and Cover Supervisors / HLTAs to work in a specialist SEN school supporting pupils aged 3 to 11. In this role, you will be supporting pupils with a range of additional needs, including Autism (ASC), (SLD) Severe Learning Difficulties, Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties, and associated communication and sensory needs. You will play a key role in helping pupils access learning, develop independence, and engage in a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment tailored to their individual needs.
 
As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will support the delivery of high-quality education by working closely with pupils across different age groups and abilities. You will help promote emotional and sensory regulation, encourage positive engagement, and support structured learning routines to enable pupils to thrive both academically and personally. As a Cover Supervisor, you will work on a full-time basis, covering lessons across a range of classes. You will deliver pre-set work, maintain classroom structure, and provide tailored support to pupils.
 
The successful candidates will be dedicated, adaptable, and passionate about making a positive difference to young people’s lives, contributing to an outstanding learning environment and supporting pupils to achieve their full potential, this role does include Personal Care and Physical Support Duties.
 
The SEN Teaching Assistant / HLTA Role:
  • Assist pupils with tasks as needed
  • Support with administrative tasks and duties when not providing cover   
  • Plan, communicate, distribute, and supervise pre-agreed work set by the class teacher
  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEND, including ASD, SEMH, PMLD, and SLD
  • Implement strategies to support behaviour, emotional regulation, and individual learning outcomes
  • Work closely with class teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals to meet EHCP targets
  • Help create a safe, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment
  • Support pupils with personal care or physical needs where required
  • Promote independence, confidence, and resilience in learners
 
We welcome applications from candidates with experience in any of the following roles:
  • SEN Teaching Assistant, SEND TA, SEN HLTA, Learning Support Assistant (LSA), Teaching Assistant, 1:1 TA, Behaviour Mentor
  • Experience of working as a Cover Supervisor
  • Experience working in a special school, PRU, alternative provision or inclusive mainstream school
  • Strong understanding of SEND, particularly supporting pupils with ASD, PMLD, SLD, SEMH
  • Empathetic, adaptable and resilient approach
  • Excellent behaviour management strategies
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
  • Relevant training such as Team Teach, Makaton or PECS is desirable but not essential
