Job Description

We're recruiting for a SEN Teacher for a long-term position at a highly supportive SEN School in the Birmingham area, starting as soon as possible . This full-time role (Monday to Friday, 8:15am – 3:30pm).
 
You will ensure high-quality education for all students within a designated class while delivering core subjects and supporting pupils across both primary and secondary age ranges. Working in line with the school’s procedures, policies, and teaching standards under the direction of the Headteacher, you will support learners with a range of additional needs, including ASD (Autism) and ADHD. Pupils may present with challenging behaviours and may be working below age-related expectations, so you will play a key role in promoting emotional regulation, fostering positive engagement, and establishing strong, consistent learning routines.

Required Skills and Experience for this SEND Teacher Role:
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/QTLS)
  • Take responsibility for a class of students with SEND, including those with complex needs such as SLD and ASD.
  • Plan, deliver, and assess highly personalised lessons that meet the individual needs of each student, supporting development across communication, emotional, physical, sensory, independence, literacy, and numeracy skills.
  • Set and monitor personalised learning targets aligned with each student’s long-term EHCP outcomes.
  • Prepare for and lead EHCP review meetings, ensuring accurate reporting and meaningful target setting.
  • Work collaboratively with parents, external professionals, and the wider community to support students’ physical, academic, social, and pastoral development.
  • Background in working within a specialist school, PRU, or inclusive mainstream setting, supporting pupils with behavioural, social, and emotional needs.
  • Familiarity with strategies for managing behaviour and supporting children with emotional and behavioural challenges.
  • Confidence in planning and delivering differentiated lessons tailored to individual needs and learning outcomes.
  • Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one)
  • Up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding practices
 
Salary:
  • £31,650 - £45,352 per annum based on working 5 days a week until the end of term
  • Holiday Pay – 12.07% of your day rate is accrued into your holiday pot

We are currently supporting an SEN School based in Birmingham, which is dedicated to meeting the needs of pupils who require specialised emotional and behavioural support. The school works with young people presenting a wide range of needs, including ASD, ADHD and associated behavioural challenges. It provides a nurturing, highly structured environment where pupils are supported to re-engage with learning, develop positive coping strategies, and build confidence both academically and socially.
 
The school is conveniently located for professionals commuting from areas across Birmingham, including Solihull, Sutton Coldfield, Walsall, Dudley, and the wider West Midlands region. With excellent transport links and on-site parking available, the setting is easily accessible whether travelling by car or public transport.
