Job Description

We’re currently recruiting SEND Teachers to work in primary and secondary SEN schools across Birmingham and the surrounding areas. In this role, you’ll support pupils with a wide range of needs, including ASD, SEMH, SLD, PMLD and complex needs, helping to foster engagement, development, and confidence in a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment.
 
You will deliver high-quality education within SEN settings, supporting pupils within designated classes while teaching core subjects across both primary and secondary age ranges. Working in line with each school’s policies, procedures, and teaching standards, you will support learners with a variety of additional needs, including ASD, SEMH,SLD, PMLD. Pupils may present with challenging behaviours and may be working below age-related expectations, so you will play a key role in promoting emotional regulation, encouraging positive engagement, and establishing consistent learning routines.
 
The SEN Teacher Role:
  • Deliver engaging and inclusive lessons to pupils with a variety of SEND needs, including Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), Behavioural, Emotional and Social Difficulties (BESD), Severe Learning Disabilities (SLD), Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), and Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD)
  • Support pupils with complex and additional educational needs
  • Adapt learning materials and approaches to suit individual learning styles and EHCP outcomes
  • Build positive relationships with pupils and colleagues
  • Maintain a trauma-informed and nurturing classroom environment
  • Work closely with Teaching Assistants, SENCOs, and external agencies
 
Required Skills and Experience for this SEND Teacher Role:
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/QTLS)
  • Experience in roles such as SENCo, ADD/BESD Teacher, MLD Teacher, SEND Teacher, or Inclusion Coordinator
  • Strong understanding of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, including MLD, SLD, PMLD
  • Experience working in a special school, PRU, or inclusive mainstream setting
  • Familiarity with strategies for managing behaviour and supporting children with emotional and behavioural challenges
  • A nurturing, empathetic, and flexible teaching style
  • Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one)
  • Up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding practices
