A welcoming and inclusive primary school in Balsall Common is seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team, with both full-time and part-time opportunities available. This rewarding role is based within the school’s SEN hub, supporting pupils across Early Years and Key Stage 1 with a range of additional needs.

In this role, you will provide tailored support to children with communication needs, including pupils who are non-verbal and those with autism. You will play a vital part in helping pupils access learning, develop communication skills, and feel secure within a structured and nurturing environment. You will work closely with the SEN team, class teachers, and other support staff to ensure each child’s individual needs are understood and supported effectively.

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, your responsibilities will include:
  • Supporting pupils with a range of additional needs, including autism and communication difficulties.
  • Providing individual and small group support tailored to pupils’ developmental and learning needs.
  • Assisting with communication strategies, routines, and transitions throughout the school day.
  • Encouraging engagement through play-based and structured learning activities appropriate to Early Years and KS1.
  • Promoting positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and social interaction using a consistent, calm approach.
  • Working collaboratively with teaching staff, therapists, and other support assistants.
  • Helping to create a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment where every child can thrive.
To be successful in this SEN Teaching Assistant role, you will need:
  • Previous experience working as an SEN Teaching Assistant or supporting young children with additional needs.
  • A minimum Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent).
  • Experience supporting pupils with autism, speech and language needs, or non-verbal communication is highly desirable.
  • A patient, understanding, and caring approach.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • A proactive, reliable, and flexible attitude, with availability to start after the half-term break.

  • Competitive Salary –  £18,049 - £19,500 per annum based on working 5 days a week for a full school year
