Job Description

We are currently recruiting SEND Teaching Assistants to join a specialist SEN school in the Kitts Green area. This setting supports Primary and Key Stage 3 pupils, all of who have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) and present with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The school provides a safe, structured and nurturing environment, focused on supporting both the educational and social development of every pupil.
 
We are looking for experienced and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistants who are Level 2 or Level 3 qualified to join a dynamic and supportive team. In this role, you will work across primary and secondary age groups, supporting pupils with SEMH needs and associated learning and behavioural challenges.
 
As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will support the delivery of a broad and tailored curriculum that is designed to meet pupils at their individual level, while working towards engagement with the National Curriculum. You will play a key role in promoting emotional regulation, positive behaviour, and structured routines, helping pupils to re-engage with learning and develop both academically and socially.

The SEN Teaching Assistant Role:
  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEND, including those with SEMH, and Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD)
  • Implement strategies to support behaviour, emotional regulation and individual learning outcomes
  • Work closely with class teachers, SENCOs and external professionals to meet EHCP goals
  • Help create a safe, inclusive and stimulating learning environment
  • Support pupils with personal care or physical needs, where required
  • Promote independence, confidence and resilience in learners
We welcome applications from candidates with experience in any of the following roles:
  • SEN Teaching Assistant, SEND TA, Learning Support Assistant (LSA), Teaching Assistant, 1:1 TA, Behaviour Mentor
  • Experience working in a special school, PRU, alternative provision or inclusive mainstream school
  • Strong understanding of SEND, particularly supporting pupils with SEMH, ASD and MLD
  • Empathetic, adaptable and resilient approach
  • Excellent behaviour management strategies
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
  • Relevant training such as Team Teach, Makaton or PECS is desirable but not essential
