SEN Teaching Assistant

Job Description

We are looking for a compassionate and dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school in North Birmingham, supporting pupils across KS1 and KS2 with a range of additional needs, including Physical Disabilities, Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) and Complex Medical Needs. You will provide support on a 1:1 basis and in small groups, helping pupils engage with learning, build independence and achieve the targets set within their EHCPs.

The school provides a warm, inclusive and supportive environment where every pupil is encouraged to reach their full potential. Working closely with teachers, therapists, families and the wider multidisciplinary team, you will play an important role in promoting pupils' communication, confidence, independence and overall wellbeing while celebrating every achievement along the way.

This SEND Teaching Assistant role is due to start in September 2026 and will continue until the end of the academic year. The position is full-time, with the opportunity to become permanent for the right candidate.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification
  • Experience supporting pupils with Physical Disabilities, PMLD and Complex Medical Needs
  • Excellent communication and behaviour management skills
  • Previous experience working in a UK school
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or issued within the last 12 months
  • Two excellent references

This SEND Teaching Assistant opportunity is based in North Birmingham and is easily commutable from Erdington, Sutton Coldfield, Kingstanding, Perry Common, Great Barr, Perry Barr, Handsworth, Aston, Castle Vale, Boldmere, Streetly and the surrounding areas by car and public transport. On-site parking is available.
