SEN Teaching Assistant

Job Description

Are you an experienced and confident SEN Teaching Assistant looking for a part-time role supporting a child in Year 2?

A welcoming First School in Droitwich is seeking a strong and committed SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team from September. This is a part-time role working afternoons only, from 12:30pm to 3:30pm, initially for the first half term. You will provide dedicated support to a Year 2 pupil who accesses bespoke provision planned by the SENCO, working outside of the main classroom for much of the afternoon.

This role is ideal for an experienced Teaching Assistant who is confident working with children with additional needs and can provide patient, consistent, and engaging support. The child enjoys spending time outdoors, so an interest in outdoor activities would be beneficial. While bespoke provision will be planned by the SENCO, the successful candidate will need to use their own initiative and adapt their approach to meet the child's needs.

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will be expected to take a proactive approach to supporting the child, helping them to engage with their individualised learning and development. You will work closely with the SENCO and wider school team to provide consistent, nurturing, and appropriate support.

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing dedicated support to a Year 2 pupil with additional needs.

  • Supporting the child outside of the main classroom as part of their bespoke provision.

  • Delivering learning and development activities planned by the SENCO.

  • Using initiative to adapt activities and support according to the child's individual needs.

  • Encouraging the child's confidence, independence, communication, and engagement.

  • Supporting the child to access learning in a calm and nurturing environment.

  • Incorporating outdoor activities and learning opportunities where appropriate.

  • Building a positive and trusting relationship with the child.

  • Working closely with the SENCO and wider school team to provide consistent support.

  • Supporting positive behaviour and maintaining a safe and inclusive environment.

To be successful in this SEN Teaching Assistant role, you will need:

  • Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant within a Primary or First School setting.

  • Experience supporting children with additional needs.

  • Confidence providing 1:1 or targeted support to pupils with additional needs.

  • The ability to work independently and use initiative when supporting a child.

  • A patient, caring, and adaptable approach.

  • An interest in outdoor activities would be beneficial.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • The ability to build positive and trusting relationships with children and staff.

  • The confidence to follow bespoke provision while adapting your approach when required.

  • A proactive and professional approach to supporting children's learning and development.

Working as an SEN Teaching Assistant for Flourish Education also offers you excellent benefits, including:

  • Competitive daily pay rates from £92.60, to £100 per day, based on previous experience.

  • Holiday Pay – PAYE candidates accrue 12.07% of their day rate.

  • Pension Contributions.

  • Free, comprehensive safeguarding and Prevent Duty training, including modules on legislation, FGM, and abuse.

  • A refer-a-friend bonus scheme.

  • Ongoing support throughout the registration process and during your placement.
