SEN Teaching Assistant

Job Description

Flourish Education are recruiting for a teaching assistant to work in a Year 1 class within a two-form entry school in the Halesowen area. The school offers a friendly atmosphere and and a welcoming staff team who are looking for an additional member of staff to join the team on a long term basis.

The role would be general class based support, working full-time (Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 3.30pm). Due to the ability of the class, there would be necessity to work with individual pupils and small groups to help make rapid progress. Previous experience within a Year 1 class and knowledge of the curriculum (such as Phonics) would be highly desirable.

As this is a long term position, the school are looking for a teaching assistant who will be committed to the children and wants to play a vital part in their learning journey.

Job role

  • Working as a teaching assistant within a Year One class.
  • Supporting pupils on a one-to-one or small group basis if required.
  • Supporting the class when not working with smaller groups.
  • Liaise with the class teacher, SENCO and other agencies to meet the needs of the pupil.
  • Working between 8.30 to 3.30pm on a daily basis

Required skills and experience

  • A valid Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) or Teaching Assistant (Level 2 or 3) qualification or Early Years qualification
  • Previous experience supporting in a Key Stage One class preferred.
  • Nurturing and supportive approach to working with young people.
  • A DBS on the update service or issued in the last 12 months.
  • Minimum of 2 excellent references required.

The school is located in the Halesowen area and is easily accessed by both car and public transport. There is some on site parking for the teaching and teaching assistants at the school, as well as parking nearby. The school is within easy reach of the surrounding areas of Dudley (such as Rowley Regis, Cradley Heath and Stourbridge), areas of Sandwell (such as Oldbury, Smethwick), areas of Birmingham (such as Bartley Green, Harborne and Quinton) and areas of Worcestershire (such as Hagley, Clent and Belbroughton).
