SEN Teaching Assistant

Are you an experienced and resilient SEND Teaching Assistant looking for a full-time role supporting pupils with SEMH and complex needs?

A specialist SEMH School in Hereford is seeking a committed and enthusiastic SEND Teaching Assistant to join their team from September on a full-time, long-term basis. The school supports pupils across KS1 to KS4, with a strong focus on trauma-informed approaches and thematic learning to help pupils develop confidence, independence, and effective self-regulation skills.

This role will involve providing dedicated 1:1 support to a KS2 pupil, helping them access their learning across core subjects while supporting their wider emotional, social, and behavioural development. The successful candidate will need to be patient, adaptable, and confident working with pupils who may present with SEMH and complex needs.

Alongside classroom-based learning, you will support the pupil during weekly Forest School and outdoor education sessions. As a SEND Teaching Assistant, your responsibilities will include:

• Providing dedicated 1:1 support to a KS2 pupil with SEMH and complex needs.

• Supporting the pupil with learning across core subjects, including English and Maths.

• Adapting learning activities to meet the pupil's individual needs and abilities.

• Using trauma-informed approaches to build trust and create a safe, supportive learning environment.

• Supporting the pupil to develop emotional regulation, independence, confidence, and positive behaviours.

• Encouraging engagement with learning and helping the pupil overcome barriers to education.

• Supporting the pupil during weekly Forest School and outdoor education sessions.

• Working collaboratively with teachers and wider school staff to provide consistent support.

• Supporting the school's thematic approach to learning and helping pupils make meaningful connections between subjects.

• Promoting positive relationships and helping the pupil develop the skills needed to become a confident and self-regulating individual.

To be successful in this SEND Teaching Assistant role, you will need:

• Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, or within a similar education setting.

• Experience supporting pupils with SEMH, behavioural, or complex needs.

• Confidence providing dedicated 1:1 support.

• A good understanding of trauma-informed approaches and the importance of building positive relationships.

• The ability to remain calm, patient, and consistent when supporting pupils who may present with challenging behaviours.

• Experience supporting pupils with their learning across core subjects.

• A flexible and adaptable approach to supporting pupils with different needs.

• The confidence to support outdoor learning and Forest School activities.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

• A genuine passion for supporting pupils who may have experienced barriers to education.
