Job Description

We are currently recruiting SEND Teaching Assistants to join a specialist SEN school based in the Kidderminster area. The school supports pupils from Foundation Stage through to Year 6 with a range of additional needs including SEMH, BESD, and ADHD.
 
The setting currently has six small classes, with no more than eight pupils per class, each supported by at least two members of staff including a class teacher and Teaching Assistant. Classes are organised based on pupils’ individual needs and social development, creating a nurturing and structured learning environment where children can thrive both academically and emotionally.
 
We are looking for experienced, patient, and dedicated Teaching Assistants to join a supportive team. In this role, you will work closely with pupils both inside and outside of the classroom, supporting learning, emotional regulation, positive behaviour, and social development.
 
As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will support the delivery of a personalised curriculum tailored to pupils’ individual learning and communication needs. You will play a key role in building positive relationships, promoting engagement, and helping children develop confidence, independence, and essential life skills.

The SEN Teaching Assistant Role:
  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEND, including those with ADHD, and SEMH
  • Implement strategies to support behaviour, emotional regulation and individual learning outcomes  
  • Work closely with class teachers, SENCOs and external professionals to meet EHCP goals
  • Help create a safe, inclusive and stimulating learning environment
  • Support pupils with personal care or physical needs, where required
  • Promote independence, confidence and resilience in learners
We welcome applications from candidates with experience in any of the following roles:
  • SEN Teaching Assistant, SEND TA, Learning Support Assistant (LSA), Teaching Assistant, 1:1 TA, Behaviour Mentor 
  • Experience working in a special school, PRU, alternative provision or inclusive mainstream school
  • Strong understanding of SEND, particularly supporting pupils with BESD, SEMH and ADHD
  • Empathetic, adaptable and resilient approach
  • Excellent behaviour management strategies
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
  • Relevant training such as Team Teach, Makaton or PECS is desirable but not essential
