Are you a caring, dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant looking for a full-time role?

A welcoming and supportive Primary School in Kidderminster is seeking an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to work on a 1:1 basis with a Reception child from September on a long-term basis, with the potential to become permanent. This is a full-time role supporting a pupil with autism and challenging behaviours.

This opportunity would suit a patient and resilient SEN Teaching Assistant who can build a strong, trusting relationship and provide consistent, tailored support. The school is looking for someone who is proactive, understanding, and able to integrate seamlessly into their friendly and experienced team.

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will provide dedicated 1:1 support, helping the child access learning and develop both academically and socially. You will work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to deliver targeted support and ensure the child’s individual needs are met. The school places a strong emphasis on inclusion, wellbeing, and creating a positive learning environment for all pupils.

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing 1:1 support for a Reception pupil within the classroom environment.

  • Supporting learning activities tailored to the child’s individual needs and stage of development.

  • Managing challenging behaviours using positive behaviour strategies.

  • Supporting communication, social interaction, and emotional regulation.

  • Working closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and wider staff team.

  • Promoting a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment.


To be successful in this SEN Teaching Assistant role, you will need:

  • Previous experience working as an SEN Teaching Assistant or supporting children with autism and additional needs.

  • Experience supporting pupils with challenging behaviours.

  • Previous experience working within Early Years and a good understanding of the Reception curriculum.

  • A patient, nurturing, and resilient approach.

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

  • The ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff.

  • A flexible and proactive attitude.
