SEN Teaching Assistant

Job Description

Are you an experienced and confident SEN Teaching Assistant looking for a full-time role supporting children in Early Years?

A welcoming Primary School in Malvern is seeking a strong and committed SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team as soon as possible. This is a full-time role initially running until Christmas, with the potential to extend into the new year. You will be supporting children within the school's Early Years provision, some of whom have a range of complex needs and are in receipt of an EHCP.

This role is ideal for an experienced Teaching Assistant who is confident working with children with additional needs and has strong experience within an Early Years setting. An Early Years qualification would be desirable, but experience working with children with SEN and complex needs is essential. The successful candidate will need to provide patient, consistent, and nurturing support while adapting their approach to meet the individual needs of the children.

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will be expected to take a proactive approach to supporting children's learning, development, communication, and independence. You will work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and wider school team to provide consistent, appropriate, and individualised support.

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing dedicated and targeted support to children within the school's Early Years provision.

  • Supporting children with a range of additional and complex needs, including children with EHCPs.

  • Helping children to access learning, play, and development opportunities within the Early Years environment.

  • Supporting children's communication, social development, confidence, and independence.

  • Adapting activities and your approach according to individual children's needs and abilities.

  • Providing a calm, patient, and nurturing presence throughout the school day.

  • Supporting children to engage with both adult-led and child-initiated learning activities.

  • Encouraging positive interactions and relationships between children.

  • Supporting positive behaviour and helping children to regulate and engage within the classroom environment.

  • Working closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and wider school team to ensure consistent support.

  • Following individual support plans and contributing to children's ongoing learning and development.

  • Maintaining a safe, inclusive, and stimulating environment for all children.

To be successful in this SEN Teaching Assistant role, you will need:

  • Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant within a Primary School or Early Years setting.

  • Essential experience supporting children with SEN and additional needs.

  • Experience working with children with complex needs would be highly beneficial.

  • Experience supporting children with EHCPs would be desirable.

  • Strong experience working with Early Years children.

  • An Early Years qualification would be desirable.

  • A patient, caring, and nurturing approach.

  • The ability to adapt your approach to meet individual children's needs.

  • Confidence supporting children on a 1:1 or small-group basis.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • The ability to build positive and trusting relationships with children and staff.

  • The confidence to work closely with teachers, the SENCO, and other professionals.

  • A proactive and professional approach to supporting children's learning and development.

  • Free, comprehensive safeguarding and Prevent Duty training, including modules on legislation, FGM, and abuse.
