A welcoming and inclusive Primary School in Oldbury is seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team full-time from September on a long-term basis.

This role will involve providing 1:1 support to a Year 2 pupil with SEMH needs and challenging behaviour, alongside supporting across the school as a general Teaching Assistant for the remainder of the day.

The pupil is currently working on a reduced timetable of approximately 1–2 hours per day as they transition back into a mainstream school setting. The successful candidate will provide consistent, nurturing 1:1 support during this time, using SEMH and nurture-based interventions to support the pupil's emotional regulation, behaviour and engagement with learning. The pupil has low-level learning needs, and the school is looking for someone who is calm, patient, resilient and confident managing challenging behaviour.

Outside of the 1:1 provision, you will support across different classes as a general Teaching Assistant, providing additional classroom support and working with pupils across the school.

As a SEN Teaching Assistant, your responsibilities will include:

• Providing dedicated 1:1 support to a Year 2 pupil with SEMH needs and challenging behaviour.

• Supporting the pupil during their reduced 1–2 hour timetable as they transition back into mainstream education.

• Delivering appropriate SEMH, nurture and emotional regulation interventions.

• Supporting the pupil to develop positive behaviours, routines and strategies for managing their emotions.

• Encouraging engagement with learning and supporting the pupil with their low-level learning needs.

• Building a positive and trusting relationship with the pupil through a consistent and nurturing approach.

• Working closely with the class teacher, SENCO and wider school team to monitor progress and behaviour.

• Supporting the implementation of individual support strategies and targets.

• Providing general Teaching Assistant support across the school for the remainder of the school day.

• Working with different classes and year groups to provide additional support where required.

• Supporting pupils with classroom activities, interventions and learning tasks.

• Promoting a positive, inclusive and supportive learning environment.

To be successful in this SEN Teaching Assistant role, you will need:

• Previous experience working with children with SEMH needs and/or challenging behaviour.

• Experience working within a nurture, specialist or mainstream setting supporting pupils with additional needs.

• A calm, patient and resilient approach to behaviour management.

• Strong understanding of SEMH needs, emotional regulation and nurture-based approaches.

• Experience delivering interventions to support social, emotional and behavioural development.

• The ability to establish clear boundaries while maintaining positive relationships with pupils.

• Experience supporting children with low-level learning needs is desirable.

• Confidence working across different classes and year groups as a general Teaching Assistant.

• Strong communication and teamwork skills.

• A proactive and flexible approach to supporting pupils and staff across the school.

• A strong commitment to safeguarding and child wellbeing.

• A DBS on the update service, or issued within the last 12 months.

• A minimum of two excellent references.
