Are you an experienced and caring SEND Teaching Assistant looking for a rewarding full-time role from September?

Flourish Education are working in partnership with a welcoming Primary School in Smethwick, who are seeking a dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to join their team from September until Christmas initially.

This full-time Teaching Assistant position involves providing 1:1 support for a child in Year 2 with a mild motor skills delay. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the child's access to learning, with a particular focus on developing fine motor skills, handwriting, and participation in classroom activities. You will also support the child with gross motor skill development to help build confidence, independence, and engagement across the school day.

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and any external professionals involved with the pupil to ensure consistent support and progress. The school is looking for a patient, nurturing, and proactive individual who can build positive relationships and adapt support strategies to meet the child's needs.

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing dedicated 1:1 support for a Year 2 pupil with a mild motor skills delay.

  • Supporting the development of fine motor skills, particularly handwriting, pencil control, and classroom-based tasks.

  • Assisting with activities designed to improve gross motor skills and physical coordination.

  • Adapting learning activities to ensure the child can access the Year 2 curriculum effectively.

  • Encouraging independence, confidence, and active participation in classroom learning.

  • Working closely with the class teacher and SENCO to implement support strategies and targets.

  • Monitoring progress and providing feedback on the child's development and achievements.

  • Supporting the pupil's social and emotional wellbeing throughout the school day.

  • Promoting a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.


Required Skills and Experience for this SEND Teaching Assistant role:

  • A minimum Level 2 qualification in a relevant field.

  • Previous experience supporting children with SEND within a primary school setting.

  • Knowledge and understanding of strategies to support children with motor skill development.

  • A patient, caring, and nurturing approach.

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

  • The ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff, and parents.

  • A proactive attitude and willingness to adapt support to meet individual needs.

  • A DBS on the Update Service or issued within the last 12 months.

  • A minimum of two excellent professional references.
