SEN Teaching Assistant

Are you a dedicated Teaching Assistant, with previous experience supporting SEN children?

A fantastic and welcoming Primary School in Tipton is seeking an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a child in Year 2 with Global Developmental Delay.

This SEN Teaching Assistant role is a full-time position, starting in September and continuing until Christmas, with the potential to be extended. Working hours will be 8:30 am to 3:15 pm, Monday to Friday.

The successful candidate will work closely with the class teacher, SENDCo, and wider support staff to ensure the child can fully access the curriculum and develop both academically and socially within a nurturing school environment. The role will involve supporting the child within their Year 2 classroom during the mornings, before working alongside them in the school's dedicated SEN provision during the afternoons.

As a SEN Teaching Assistant, your responsibilities will include:

• Providing dedicated 1:1 support throughout the school day to help the child feel safe, supported, and confident within the school environment.
• Supporting the child's communication, learning, and development using strategies tailored to their individual needs and level of understanding.
• Supporting access to the curriculum by adapting activities, breaking learning into manageable steps, and reinforcing teacher instructions.
• Encouraging the development of independence, confidence, and social skills through consistent, nurturing support.
• Supporting emotional regulation and promoting positive behaviour using a calm and patient approach.
• Working alongside the class teacher, SENDCo, and SEN provision staff to ensure consistency between classroom learning and intervention sessions.
• Observing, monitoring, and sharing feedback on the child's progress, achievements, and areas for development to support ongoing planning.

To be successful in this SEN Teaching Assistant role, you will need:

• A minimum Level 2 qualification.
• Previous experience supporting children with SEND, ideally within a Primary School setting.
• Experience supporting children with Global Developmental Delay or a range of additional learning needs is desirable.
• A calm, patient, and nurturing approach with the ability to build positive relationships.
• A good understanding of SEND and inclusive classroom practice.
• The ability to adapt learning and use child-centred strategies to support communication and engagement.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with school staff and families.
• A reliable, professional, and committed attitude, with the ability to provide consistent, long-term support.

This SEN Teaching Assistant position is based in Tipton, commutable by public transport from local areas such as Oldbury, Dudley, West Bromwich, Wednesbury and Tividale. Onsite parking is also available.
