SEN Teaching Assistant

Job Description

We’re currently recruiting a 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant to support primary and reception-aged children at a specialist school in Warwickshire. You will work with pupils with a range of additional needs, including Behavioural, Emotional and Social Difficulties (BESD), Physical Disabilities (PD), Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), non-verbal pupils, and English as an Additional Language (EAL), providing tailored, one-to-one support to help each child thrive.

The 121 SEN Teaching Assistant Role:
  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEND, including those with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Multi-Sensory Impairment (MSI), Physical Disabilities (PD), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), and Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN).
  • Implement strategies to support behaviour, emotional regulation and individual learning outcomes
  • Work closely with class teachers, SENCOs and external professionals to meet EHCP goals
  • Help create a safe, inclusive and stimulating learning environment
  • Support pupils with personal care or physical needs, where required
  • Promote independence, confidence and resilience in learners
We welcome applications from candidates with experience in any of the following roles:
  • SEN one to one Teaching Assistant, SEND 121 TA, Learning Support Assistant (LSA), Teaching Assistant, 1:1 TA, Behaviour Mentor
  • Experience working in a special school, PRU, alternative provision or inclusive mainstream school
  • Strong understanding of SEND, particularly supporting pupils with  Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Multi-Sensory Impairment (MSI), Physical Disabilities (PD), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), and Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN).
  • Empathetic, adaptable and resilient approach
  • Excellent behaviour management strategies
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
  • Relevant training such as Team Teach, Makaton or PECS is desirable but not essential
