Are you a patient and caring Teaching Assistant looking for a full-time 1:1 role supporting a child with Down syndrome?

A welcoming and inclusive primary school in Worcester is seeking a dedicated 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a Year 1 pupil with Down syndrome. This is a full-time role, Monday to Friday, starting as soon as possible and continuing until July 2026.

The pupil is classroom-based, and this role focuses on providing tailored support to access learning, build confidence, and develop key skills, ensuring they are fully included in all aspects of school life. The school is looking for a calm, attentive, and nurturing Teaching Assistant who can make a real difference in the pupil’s daily learning experience.

As a 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant, your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing dedicated 1:1 support for a Year 1 pupil with Down syndrome.
  • Supporting access to the curriculum and adapting tasks to meet the pupil’s individual learning needs.
  • Reinforcing learning, key vocabulary, and instructions delivered by the class teacher.
  • Encouraging independence, confidence, and engagement with lessons.
  • Working closely with the class teacher, SENCo, and any external professionals involved.
  • Creating a calm, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment where the pupil feels safe and included.


To be successful in this 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant role, you will need:

  • Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant or in a 1:1 support role.
  • Experience supporting pupils with additional needs, ideally Down syndrome or similar learning difficulties.
  • A patient, nurturing, and supportive approach.
  • The ability to build positive, trusting relationships with pupils and staff.
  • A professional, reliable, and proactive attitude.
