Job Description

We are currently recruiting Child Residential Support Workers, SEN Support Workers, and Youth Professionals to join a specialist school in the Worcester area. This unique setting supports children and young people with a range of additional needs, including Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, and mixed complex needs.

The school provides a highly personalised approach to learning and support, with just 29 pupils on roll and a maximum of four pupils per class. All children have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), ensuring that support is tailored to their individual needs. Many pupils receive either 1:1 or 2:1 support throughout the school day, creating a nurturing and structured environment where every child can thrive.

The school is divided into three specialist learning provisions, designed to meet the varying needs of its pupils and provide the most appropriate educational and therapeutic support. Staff work closely together to ensure each child receives consistent care, encouragement, and opportunities for development both academically and socially.

We are looking for individuals with a positive, willing nature who are passionate about supporting children with additional needs. Previous experience in residential care, support work, youth work, education, healthcare, or similar settings would be beneficial, although a genuine desire to make a difference is equally important.

The SEN support worker role
  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEND, including those with ASD, SEMH and SLD
  • Support pupils with emotional regulation, routines and social interaction
  • Help create a safe, nurturing and inclusive learning environment
  • Work closely with teachers, SENCOs and other professionals to support pupils’ individual needs and EHCP outcomes
  • Support pupils with personal care or physical needs where required
  • Encourage independence, confidence and positive behaviour
  • Build trusting relationships with pupils who may display challenging behaviours

We welcome applications from candidates with experience in any of the following roles:
  • Residential Support Worker
  • Children’s Support Worker
  • Youth Worker
  • Behaviour Mentor
  • Family Support Worker
  • SEN Support Worker

Experience working with children with Autism, Severe learning difficulties, behavioural needs or additional support needs is highly desirable.

We are looking for individuals who are
  • Empathetic, resilient and patient
  • Passionate about supporting children and young people with additional needs
  • Calm and confident in challenging situations
  • Adaptable and able to build positive relationships
  • Comfortable supporting personal care where required
  • Willing to work as part of a team in a specialist school setting

Requirements
  • Experience in a care, support or mentoring role
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
  • Experience supporting individuals with ASD, SEMH or additional needs is desirable
  • Relevant training such as Team Teach, MAPA, Makaton or PECS is beneficial but not essential
