Job Description

Flourish Education is currently working with a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Brierley Hill that is seeking a full-time SEND Teacher to join their dedicated SEMH unit. This long-term role is due to start after the October half-term, with the potential to become a permanent position for the right candidate.

The successful teacher will be working within a specialist unit that supports 14 children with EHCPs, split across three small classrooms, all with TA support. Pupils in the unit present with a range of social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs and can display very challenging behaviour at times. There are no personal care requirements for any current pupils.

This is a fantastic opportunity to work as part of a small, supportive team, making a real difference to the lives of children who benefit from a highly tailored approach. Full teacher responsibilities are required, including planning, marking and staff meetings. 

The school is inviting potential candidates to attend a paid trial day to ensure the right fit for the class and team.

Roles and responsibilities of an SEND Teacher:
  • Delivering creative and personalised lessons for pupils with SEMH and additional needs
  • Differentiating your teaching to meet a wide range of abilities and emotional needs
  • Working collaboratively with TAs, the SENCO, and external professionals to support pupils' progress
  • Promoting consistent behaviour expectations and emotional regulation strategies
  • Building trusting relationships with pupils, colleagues, and families

Suitable SEND Teacher Candidates will have the following:
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) – essential
  • Experience teaching children with SEMH needs or in specialist settings (PRU, SEND base, or special school)
  • Strong behaviour management skills and a nurturing, resilient approach
  • Ability to plan and deliver lessons to meet a variety of additional needs
  • Confident working with children with EHCPs
