SEND Teaching Assistant

Job Description

Flourish Education are recruiting a Specialist Teaching Assistant to work in a welcoming Primary School in Perton. This role will be based within the school’s dedicated SEN provision, which supports children with a range of additional needs including Autism, ADHD, SEMH, communication difficulties, and moderate to severe learning needs.

This is a highly rewarding role where you will provide both 1:1 support and small group interventions, helping pupils to access the curriculum through tailored resources, clear routines, and personalised strategies. Many of the children you will be supporting present with speech and language delays, sensory processing difficulties, or social interaction needs, so experience with approaches such as PECS, Makaton, or visual timetables would be highly desirable.

The school is passionate about fostering a nurturing, structured, and inclusive environment where every child has the opportunity to succeed. They are seeking a patient, proactive, and resilient Teaching Assistant with strong behaviour management skills who can adapt to individual needs, remain calm under pressure, and build trusting relationships with pupils.

This role is to start in September 2025 and will continue on a long-term, ongoing basis. Working hours are 8:30am – 3:30pm, Monday to Friday.

Required Skills and Experience for this Teaching Assistant role:

  • Hold a Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in childcare/teaching support

  • Previous experience supporting children with SEND, ideally Autism, ADHD, or SEMH

  • Knowledge of strategies such as PECS, Makaton, or sensory-based interventions (desirable)

  • Strong behaviour management skills with the ability to de-escalate challenging situations calmly

  • Experience working in Primary Schools as a Teaching Assistant or Learning Support Assistant

  • A DBS on the update service or issued in the last 12 months

  • UK school-based experience

  • A minimum of 2 excellent references

Working for Flourish Education as a Teaching Assistant you will receive:

  • Competitive salary – Up to £90 per day depending on experience, equating to £17,550 per annum based on 5 days a week across the academic year

  • £100 welcome-to-the-team bonus after working 10 days

  • Pension contributions

  • Holiday pay – 12.07% of your day rate accrued into your holiday pot

  • KCSIE-compliant safeguarding and prevent duty training, inclusive of modules on legislation, FGM, and abuse

  • Refer a Friend bonus scheme

  • Regular contact and support throughout the registration process and while in role from your dedicated consultant

The school is located in Perton and is easily accessible from Wolverhampton, Codsall, Wombourne, Pattingham, and surrounding areas. The school also offers on-site parking for staff.
