Teaching Assistant

Job Description

Are you a patient and supportive Teaching Assistant with BSL Level 2, looking for a full-time 1:1 role?

A welcoming and inclusive primary school is seeking a dedicated 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a Year 2 pupil with a hearing impairment. This is a full-time role, working Monday to Friday, starting from Easter.

The child has no behavioural difficulties but is currently working below age-related expectations due to hearing loss. This role is classroom-based and focuses on supporting communication, access to learning, and academic development, helping the pupil to fully engage with lessons and build confidence.

The school is looking for a calm, caring, and attentive Teaching Assistant who understands the impact of hearing impairment on learning and communication. You will play a key role in removing barriers to learning and ensuring the pupil feels supported, included, and confident within the classroom.

As a 1:1 Teaching Assistant, your responsibilities will include:
  • Providing dedicated 1:1 support for a Year 2 pupil with a hearing impairment.
  • Using British Sign Language (BSL) to support communication and understanding during lessons.
  • Supporting access to the curriculum and adapting tasks to meet the pupil’s learning needs.
  • Reinforcing learning, key vocabulary, and instructions delivered by the class teacher.
  • Encouraging independence, confidence, and positive engagement with learning.
  • Working closely with the class teacher, SENCo, and external professionals where required.
  • Creating a calm, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.

To be successful in this 1:1 Teaching Assistant role, you will need:
  • BSL Level 2 (essential).
  • Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant or 1:1 support role.
  • Experience supporting children with hearing impairment or communication needs (desirable).
  • A patient, nurturing, and supportive approach.
  • The ability to build positive, trusting relationships with pupils and staff.
  • A professional and proactive attitude.

Working as a SEN Teaching Assistant for Flourish Education also offers you excellent benefits, including:
  • Competitive daily rate, pro rata, from £92.56 to £100 per day.
  • Holiday pay – PAYE candidates accrue 12.07% of their day rate.
  • Pension contributions.
  • Free, comprehensive safeguarding and Prevent Duty training, including modules on legislation, FGM, and abuse.
  • A refer-a-friend bonus scheme.
  • Ongoing support throughout the registration process and during your placement.

This SEN Teaching Assistant role is based in Bromsgrove and is easily commutable from Burcot, Blackwell, Lickey, and surrounding areas. The school offers good transport links and on-site parking.
