Lizzy talks about her career at Flourish Education

I am Senior Team Leader and recruit for primary schools in south Birmingham and Solihull.

What’s your story/background?

I joined Flourish in September 2018 after completing my BA Hons Degree in Human Geography at Worcester Uni. I initially joined to work on our Birmingham Secondary Desk and then moved to the primary side of the business in December 2020 and took on the Senior Team Leader position.

What motivates you and why?

Job satisfaction and success.

What do you like about working at Flourish Education?

We are a very close-knit team here. We all work together to support one another, and we like to ensure everyone succeeds.

What’s your take on how the pandemic has affected education recruitment and how has Flourish supported you during these challenging times?

The pandemic has hugely affected the education recruitment sector. Initially, it was worrying for our supply staff but we kept in contact with everyone that was active with us and furloughed everyone who was eligible. Once classes resumed, we saw a period where schools didn’t have a need for supply teachers, or were hesitant to have them in classes due to the spread of COVD-19.

The pressure of this pandemic has made many supply staff leave the profession to find work in different industries and others simply couldn’t return because they were vulnerable. Fast forward to the present day, and there is an unprecedented demand for supply teachers and support staff that is growing by the day.

I was supported by Flourish during the pandemic by being furloughed.  It allowed me to work part-time and I was able to return to my position (and promotion) once things returned to some normality. As a team, we worked hard to support each other by doing regular check ins, door step drop offs and organising weekly zoom games.

How can you help candidates find a job?

I have exclusive and close professional relationships with schools in South Birmingham who trust me to supply their schools with staff both on an ad hoc and longer term basis. We invest a lot of time during the registration process to find out exactly what a candidate is looking for and matching that as best we can.

What area and roles do you specialise in?

South Birmingham and Solihull

What advice do you have for candidates in their education career?

The best advice I could give is to be an organised person. Organisation is key to success in the classroom.
