A Who’s Who of the Department of Education’s (DfE) new Ministerial Team!

It has been just over a week since Labour gained a majority in the General Election; with a change in the government, comes a change in the education ministerial team.

Here is a who’s who of the Department of Education’s new Ministerial Team!

Secretary of State for Education:

The Rt Hon Bridget Phillipson has been appointed as the Secretary of State for Education and Minister of Women and Equalities. Phillipson has been the Labour candidate for Houghton and Sunderland South constituency since 2010.

Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson commented “Our push for high and rising standards across our state schools began on day one, with first steps including recruiting 6,500 new teachers. I have moved quickly to make sure my department can deliver on our mission to break down the barriers to opportunity, so every child has the best start in life.”

  • Janet Daby (MP for Lewisham East) - Minister for Children and Families
  • Stephen Morgan (MP for Portsmouth South) - Minister for Early Education

New ministerial team for the Department of Education plan to reset the relationship between the DfE & the school workforce

The Department for Education (DfE) has also appointed a new Non-Executive Board Member (NEBM), the former head of the Education Endowment Foundation, Sir Kevan Collins.

Sir Kevan Collins said on his return to the Department of Education, “There are real challenges facing our schools and I am looking forward to being part of a renewed drive to ensure that we tackle these with bold and fresh new ideas, to deliver high and rising standards in every corner of the country.”

In their first week, the new Ministerial team have been focusing its efforts on resetting the relationship between the DfE and the education sector, but where do you think the Department of Education (DfE) should begin to reset the relationship between the government and the school workforce?
