What Qualifications, Qualities and Experience Do I Need to Work as a Geography Teacher?

To work as a Geography Teacher in UK schools, you will typically need:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or be on a route leading to QTS (e.g. PGCE in Geography)
  • A relevant degree in Geography or a closely related subject
  • Recent, relevant UK classroom experience teaching Geography at KS3 and/or KS4 (KS5 desirable)
  • Up-to-date knowledge of the UK curriculum
