What Qualifications, Qualities and Experience Do I Need to Work as a PE Teacher?

To work as a PE Teacher in the UK, you’ll typically need:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
  • A relevant degree in Physical Education or Sports Science
  • Recent and relevant UK school experience, ideally teaching PE at Key Stage 3 and 4 (and Key Stage 5 if applicable)
  • A passion for promoting health, fitness and wellbeing in young people
  • Excellent communication and classroom management skills

Alongside qualifications, we’re looking for individuals who are dedicated, adaptable and committed to creating an engaging learning environment. Experience running extracurricular sports clubs or coaching qualifications can also be advantageous.
