I started at Flourish Education in February 2014 as a recruitment consultant, was promoted to Branch Manager in September 2014 and most recently promoted to Operations Manager in September 2021. Having worked in nearly all areas other than finance, I have a good overview of the business which really helps me in my operational role since I look at how we can improve our business services to both candidates and clients. Currently, I oversee compliance, HR, marketing and all our systems and processes, along with the day-to-day needs of Flourish Education to run smoothly and efficiently.
My parents have always been my inspiration and I’ve definitely gained my work ethic and values from them. It has never mattered to me what job I do, as long as I give it my all. Prior to working at Flourish Education, I worked in recruitment for another agency. However, I left due to a poor business culture. Flourish Education is so different - the culture and values of the business really do make all the difference!
I like to feel like I’m doing a good job, that I have an impact on those around me that enables them to achieve. I love to see those I’ve coached and developed growing in their career, taking on leadership role, smashing targets and getting promotions.
I love being part of the Flourish Education family and since I’m still here after nearly 8 years, they must be doing something right! I love that every person in the business matters; we all work together to achieve our goals and live by the mantra “success is achieved as a collective”.
Our Managing Director, Grant, is always at the heart of the business ensuring he’s on hand to help and guide us in our roles. We’re given autonomy to make decisions ourselves and are encouraged to do so more and more.
Not going to lie - only working 4.5 days and getting paid for 5 is definitely a bonus too!
At the moment, we're working really hard to support our schools with the growing demand, particularly when it comes to ensuring they're able to help those children close the gaps with missed learning. It's a difficult task because of growing demand, and because lockdown made a lot of supply staff (like most people) reassess their lives. Many left the profession completely due to the increased stress.
The good thing about us, is that we've always cared about what's important to our candidates which definitely helps when we're looking for a role that fits them. By finding 'right fit' roles, it helps ensure candidates are happier, positive and motivated when we place them into a school, which in turn means they do a good job.
In my current role, I'm not directly involved in placing candidates, but what I do behind the scenes ensures we can get them registered as smoothly as possible. This generally means getting candidates through our compliance process as quickly as possible to ensure they're ready to go out to work. I do this by looking at how we can improve the candidate journey, updating our processes, software and keeping up-to-date with all the compliance legislations.
At the moment, I don’t do recruitment but in the past I've recruited for both primary and secondary school staff across nearly all the areas in the West Midlands. I'm always happy to talk to anyone about joining Flourish Education and will be transparent and honest about how we work.
It doesn’t matter where you are at in your career, always remember why you started this journey. It's so easy to get lost in the daily grind of life and sometimes we need to take a step back to really look at all the achievements we've had along the way. You may think you're just 'doing your job' but to a child, those things are shaping and moulding their lives – you are creating the leaders of our future!
I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I like to work hard so I can go on nice holidays.
