What Qualifications, Qualities and Experience Do I Need to Work as an SEN Teacher or SEN TA?

To work as an SEN Teacher, you will need:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
  • Experience working with pupils with SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities)
  • A strong understanding of EHCPs, differentiation and behaviour strategies
  • A passion for inclusive education

To work as an SEN Teaching Assistant, you may need:

  • A Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent experience)
  • Experience supporting children or young people with additional needs
  • Patience, resilience, empathy and excellent communication skills
  • An enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to obtain one)

Experience in speech and language, autism, ADHD, SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health), or physical disabilities is highly valued. Whether you’re an experienced SEN professional or just starting out, we’d love to hear from you.
