Qualifications Needed to Become an English Teacher

To work as an English Teacher in a UK school, you'll typically need the following qualifications and requirements:

  • A UK-recognised Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or QTLS
  • A degree in English or a related subject (such as Literature, Creative Writing, or Linguistics)
  • Completion of a PGCE, SCITT, or other teacher training qualification
  • A valid enhanced DBS certificate (or be willing to obtain one)
